At 1/2 past 5 P.M. came to anchor with the Small-Bower in Batavia Road in five fathoms of Water . . . Lying in the Road, 2 Philadelphia ships, Capt. Hodges of Salem, one Dutch Man of War & one French Frigate, and a number of Merchantmen.—Fired a Salute of seven Guns, and was answered by the Dutch Commodore by five, which we ansrd [answered] by one.—”
