1/4 past 6 P.M. fired a gun to windwrd for a Sloop . . . She was the Maria of New York Commanded by Abraham Folger . . . Short of water. Sent her boat & we supplied them with 40 galls [gallons]. Got out our boat the Captn & 2nd officer went on board. They informed them that they were Robbed, 30 Leagues off the Capes of Delaware, of many necessary articles by a french privateer Schooner, mounting 16 guns.”
